Everything Dickens & A Tale of Two Cities
In A Tale Of Two Cities (ATOTC) Dickens uses themes of resurrection, parallelism, sacrifice, and various analogies to pass a subliminal message to be interpreted by the reader. Charles Dickens puts a lot of his own life into all of his work, and AToTC is no exception. A Tale of Two Cities takes place in London and Paris from 1775 - 1793. The whole story is divided into 3 different books. Books 1 and 2 are used to develop the story and the characters so it can all culminate in an interesting and dramatic finish for the readers. The story was originally published in weekly segments. There are several recurring themes throughout the book, including redemption and resurrection, light vs. dark, and facing the past. We've written an overview of all 3 book that can be found in our "Chapter Overviews" section under the "More" tab. There is also a page on reading strategies to help those that are struggling to comprehend the text. Also, below are some videos for those interested in watching film adaptations of the book, sketches relating to the book, and a map of Paris, where the end of the book takes place.
